Hamlet Analytical Essay Essays

Hamlet Analytical Essay Essays Hamlet Analytical Essay Paper Hamlet Analytical Essay Paper And if I stay it will be double, which provides an explanation of all the murders and suicides that were a result of Hamlets decision to not end his life. !! The conscience drives ones decision making, which determines the end, and the ate of the afterlife. Hamlet has demonstrated how overthrowing can lead to unlawful deaths, and how one will pay for their sins in the afterlife. However, Hamlet and his family are Christians, and if they followed their own beliefs, the outcomes would have been different. Hamlet would have a clear conscience, no deaths would have taken place, and their afterlives would have been saved. Through this play, Shakespeare teaches the important lesson of morality. How to Write the Hook of an Essay

How to Write the Hook of an Essay You can think of the first sentence of your essay as you would a fishing hook. It grabs your reader and allows you reel the person into your essay and your train of thought. The hook for your essay can be an interesting sentence that captures a persons attention, it can be thought-provoking, or even, entertaining. The hook for your essay often appears in the first sentence. The opening paragraph includes a thesis sentence. Some popular hook choices can include using an interesting quote, a little-known fact, famous last words, or a statistic. Quote Hook A quote hook is best used when you are composing an essay based on an author, story, or book. It helps establish your authority on the topic and by using someone elses quote, you can strengthen your  thesis if the quote supports it. The following is an example of a quote hook: A mans errors are his portals of discovery. In the next sentence or two, give a reason for this quote or current example. As for the last sentence (the thesis) : Students grow more confident and self-sufficient when parents allow them to make mistakes and experience failure. General statement By setting the tone in the opening sentence with a uniquely written general statement of your thesis, the beauty is that you get right to the point. Most readers appreciate that approach. For example, you can start with the following statement: Many studies show that the biological sleep pattern for teens shifts a few hours, which means teens naturally stay up later and feel alert later in the morning. The next sentence, set up the body of your essay, perhaps by introducing the concept that school days should be adjusted so that they are more in sync with the teenagers natural sleep or wake cycle. As for the last sentence (the thesis):  If every school day started at ten oclock, many students would find it easier to stay focused. Statistic By listing a proven fact or entertaining an interesting statistic that might even sound implausible to the reader, you can excite a reader to want to know more.   Like this hook: According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, teens and young adults experience the highest rates of violent crime. Your next sentence can set up the argument that its dangerous for teenagers to be on the streets at late hours. A fitting thesis statement might read: Parents are justified in implementing a strict curfew, regardless of a students academic performance. The Right Hook for Your Essay The good news about finding a hook? You can find a quote, fact, or another type of hook after you determine your thesis. You can accomplish this with a simple online search about your topic after youve developed your essay. You can nearly have the essay finished before you revisit the opening paragraph. Many writers polish up the first paragraph after the essay is completed. Outlining the Steps for Writing Your Essay Heres an example of the steps you can follow that help you outline your essay. First paragraph: Establish the thesisBody paragraphs: Supporting evidenceLast paragraph: Conclusion with a restatement of the thesisRevisit the first paragraph: Find the best hook Obviously, the first step is to determine your thesis. You need to research your topic and know what you plan to write about. Develop a starting statement. Leave this as your first paragraph for now. The next paragraphs become the supporting evidence for your thesis. This is where you include the statistics, opinions of experts, and anecdotal information. Compose a closing paragraph that is basically a reiteration of your thesis statement with new assertions or conclusive findings you find during with your research. Lastly, go back to your introductory hook paragraph. Can you use a quote, shocking fact, or paint a picture of the thesis statement using an anecdote? This is how you sink your hooks into a reader. The best part is if you are not loving what you come up with at first, then you can play around with the introduction. Find several facts or quotes that might work for you. Try out a few different starting sentences and determine which of your choices makes the most interesting beginning to your essay.

Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells - Essay Example Although there are 6 challenges facing fuel cells, nations led by the U.S and Japan have taken the lead in developing hydrogen and fuel cells as their premier energy choice of the future. Global demand for energy is increasing at a frightening pace. World Energy Technology & Climate Policy Outlook {WETO} estimates that it will grow at an annual rate of 1.8% for the next two decades. The demand is presently being satisfied mainly by fossil fuels that are not only expensive and release greenhouse gases and other pollutants into the atmosphere but are also fast depleting (European Commission, 2003, page 9, para.1). In contrast, the hydrogen energy and fuel cell system ensures energy safety and regular supply, it is economically competitive and it does not pollute the air, but in fact reduces greenhouse gases; the recognition of these benefits is apparent as countries like the U.S and Japan, are laying the platform to ensure that it features heavily in the coming future. Hydrogen {chemic al sign H} is not a basic energy source {such as crude oil and gas}, but an energy carrier (European Commission, 2003, page 10, para.3). It is the most in-elaborate and most plentiful element on earth. A hydrogen atom has a single proton and a single electron. Hydrogen does not exist by itself in a natural gaseous form but readily combines with other elements {for example, it combines with oxygen to form water [H2O]} to form substances. Hydrogen is also contained in several organic compounds, especially hydrocarbons that are part of fuels like gasoline and methanol. Hydrogen can be separated from water by a procedure called electrolysis which uses electric current to split water into oxygen and hydrogen. Hydrogen can be split from hydrocarbons by a procedure called reforming that uses heat to carry out the separation (Renewable Energy World.com, 2009, para.1&2).A fuel cell (FIG.1) unites oxygen and hydrogen to produce electricity by an electrochemical process.

Claudius, the Bad Guy in Shakespeares Hamlet Essay -- Shakespeare Ham

Claudius the Bad Guy in Hamlet  Ã‚        Ã‚  Ã‚   This essay will thoroughly delineate the character of King Claudius in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, show his place in the drama, and interpret his character -- with the assistance of literary critics.    Philip Burton in â€Å"Hamlet† discusses Claudius’ sudden rise to the Danish throne upon the death of King Hamlet I:    The fact that Claudius has become king is not really surprising. Only late in the play does Hamlet complain that his uncle had "popped in between the election and my hopes." The country had been in a nervous state expecting an invasion by young Fortinbras, at the head of a lawless band of adventurers, in revenge for his father’s death at the hands of King Hamlet. A strong new king was immediately needed; the election of Claudius, particularly in the absence of Hamlet, was inevitable. What is more, it was immediately justified, because Claudius manages to dispel the threat of invasion by appealing to the King of Norway to curb his nephew, Fortinbras; the ambitious young soldier was the more ready to cancel the projected invasion because the object of his revenge, Hamlet’s father, was now dead, and in return he received free passage through Denmark to fight against Poland (Burton).    The drama opens after Hamlet has just returned from Wittenberg, England, where he has been a student. What brought him home was the news of his father’s death and his uncle’s accession to the throne of Denmark. Hamlet has also learned the disturbing news of the new king’s â€Å"o’erhasty marriage† to Hamlet I’s wife less than two month’s after the funeral. It would seem initially that Gertrude, rather than Claudius, is to blame for the protagonist’s â€Å"violent emotions† (Smith 80); thus ... ...et.htm    Coleridge, Samuel Taylor. Gathering Blue Essay Essay

Kira is a girl with a twisted leg who lives in a more primitive society where people who cannot work, die. She has been kept alive by her mother, and when her mother dies, Kira is brought before the Council of Guardians. Kira’s life is spared when she proves she can weave very well, and she is assigned to the task of fixing up the robe worn by the singer whose only job is to sing the story of human civilization once a year. She meets Thomas, the boy whose duty is to carve the Singer’s staff. When finding out she needs to dye her own thread, Kira begins making a trip to the hut of Annabella, an old woman who teaches Kira dyeing. Annabella shows her the plants needed to make every color, except for blue. Kira slowly learns that her life is less than idyllic. She hears crying in her building, and she and Thomas discover another orphan girl whose ability is to sing and will eventually replace the current Singer. The orphan girl is scolded and punished if she does not sing; Kira befriends her but realizes she, Thomas, and the orphan girl do not have as much freedom as thought. At the Ceremony, she sees the Singer (whose robe she is fixing). She realizes that his feet are chained, and he is essentially a prisoner. The implication is that she and the others with gifts are also prisoners. Kira is also friends with a boy named Matt. He tells Kira of a village he once came across while lost in the woods. This village had blue. When the day that the Singer sings his song comes, Matt is nowhere to be found. He eventually returns with a blind man from the village in a blue shirt. The man, it turns out, is the father whom Kira thought was dead: Christopher. He now lives in a community made up of injured and disabled people who help one another. Christopher has enemies on the council and is forced to return. Kira decides to stay in the village to continue to mend the singer’s robe and help improve the society she lives in. Eventually, close to the end of the book Matt tells Kira about a boy with blue eyes from the community her dad is from. He says he has blue eyes and is not injured in any way. He thinks Kira should get married with him, but Kira declines. That boy is later revealed to be ‘Jonas’ from The Giver, a book also by Lowry. Characters: Kira – a young girl with a twisted leg and gifted in weaving; She is the protagonist of the novel Vandara – an evil enemy of Kira’s; she requests that Kira be sent to the field to die Annabella – an elderly woman who teaches Kira about dyes Thomas – Kira’s friend, a young man gifted in wood carvings Jo – a toddler girl gifted in singing Matt – a young boy who helps Kira, Thomas, and (later) Christopher Jamison – an older man, Kira’s sponsor and mentor from the Council of Guardians; later found to be the man who attempted to kill Christopher. Hemingway Hero

Hemingway Hero? Old Man and the Sea â€Å"†¦ A very old man walking unsteadily but with dignity. † This excerpt is from Ernest Hemingway’s A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, but it could have easily been mistaken for, The Old Man and the Sea, also written by Hemingway. In both stories, the old man and Santiago, both become very unsteady at the end of the tale; but, they manage to maintain their dignity. For the old man, in A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, the reason he is so unsteady is because he is drunk. He likes to go to the cafe at night and drink his night away, and somehow, he manages to leave with all of his self worth. In The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago leaves the ocean in destruction, but also keeps his dignity; for, he believes he isn’t defeated. At the beginning of A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, the waiters mention that the old man had recently tried to kill himself. Santiago, the fisherman in The Old Man and the Sea, wouldn’t coward away from life like that. The waiters from the old man’s story said that he attempted to kill himself because he was in despair. Santiago had many reasons to be in despair, but not one time did he try to take his own life away. In both stories, both of the elderly men seem to be persistent. The old man in the cafe was told that he wasn’t going to be poured anymore alcohol. He insisted that the waiter should pour him some more. The first waiter did, but the next was more stubborn. Unfortunately, the second waiter won the battle, and the old man did not receive more brandy; but, he did not go down without a fight. Santiago was a very persistent old man as well. He was injured greatly, while fighting a battle with a great marlin; but he wouldn’t let the fish win without a fight. Eventually, Santiago killed the fish, but he was very persistent in his task. He too, would not go down without a fight. Hemingway Code Hero The old man, in A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, follows quite a few criterions to Hemingway’s Code Hero. The night seems to be equivalent to death, is disciplined, he expresses himself through actions. The waiters said that he old man comes to the cafe every night, and just drinks it away. Hemingway Hero’s stay up at night, or always have a light on, because the night is the same as death to them. The old man also seems to have much discipline, as a Code Hero should be, according to the standards. He is drunk, and yet he still manages to not spill and remain very clean; which must have taken a lot of discipline to not be a slob, even when you’re drunk. He also expresses himself through actions more than words. Granted, he is deaf, but he still knows how to talk; his actions definitely outweigh his words. He attempted suicide, which action screams louder than any words I have ever heard. This characteristic also follows the list of ideal traits a Hemingway hero should exhibit. The old man is a definite Hemingway Code hero.

Sleep Deprivation essays

Sleep Deprivation essays Sleep is one of the most important things a person does each day. It allows the body to rest and to replenish itself so that it is better able to serve its purpose of living. Yet, many people who don't have enough hours in the day to do everything have to cut out sleep before any other activity. This is especially true for teenagers, who are trying to get good grades, do extra curricular activities, work, and have a social life. Those are the things that lead to teenage sleep loss; the effects of this loss are devastating. School is one of the most important things of a young person's life, whether or not the teenager is willing to admit it. The teenager spends most of their time either in school or doing homework to further their education. The pressures of school are enormous. Stress is brought on with every project, experiment, and essay assigned to the student. They are forced to go through loads of work, trying to catch up to where they must be, all in order to receive good grades. On many occasions, these students will be up late studying, typing, reading, basically doing everything but sleeping. Sleep is put off so that more schoolwork can be fit into the day. Along with the pressure for good grades comes the pressure to participate in extra curricular activities such as plays, band, pompoms, clubs, and sports. Not only do teens have to keep up their grades, but they must also balance a calendar of school events. This can be difficult for many with heavy academic schedules. They will spend the afternoon in school, and then come home to eat dinner and begin their homework. Many will be up until three in the morning typing on their computers, only to go to sleep exhausted, and wake up three to four hours later to begin the day again, myself being one of them. With this little amount of sleep, many teenagers also feel the basic need for money and a steady income during their teen years because of pressure from parents an...

A Guide to German Toasts

A Guide to German Toasts The origin of the English word toast- in the sense of drink a toast to someone- has several explanations. According to most sources, a drinking toast (a word also used in German) is related to roasted bread, aka toast. Websters says the word is derived from the use of toasted spiced bread to flavor the wine [during a toast], and the notion that the person honored also added flavor. Other sources claim that the word is derived from the 18th century English custom of covering a glass of hot spiced wine with a slice of toast as it was passed around the table. Each person lifted the toast, took a sip of wine, said a few words, and passed the glass on. When the glass reached the person being toasted, the honoree got to eat the toast. Prost!Ein Toast! The German equivalents of Cheers! or Bottoms up! are Prost! or Zum Wohl! But longer, more formal toasts (Trinksprà ¼che, (kurze) Tischreden) are common on special occasions such as marriage, retirement, or a birthday. A birthday toast almost always includes Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! (or nowadays even an English Happy Birthday!), but a real birthday toast would expand on that with more good wishes, such as this humorous jab: Hoffentlich hast du soviel Spaß an deinem Geburtstag, dass du ihn von nun an jhrlich feierst! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! (I hope you have so much fun on your birthday that youll celebrate it annually from now on! Happy birthday!) The Irish seem to be a bountiful and universal source of toasts and good wishes. Germans have borrowed many Irish sayings  like the well-known May the road rise to meet you... Although German-speakers often use it in English, there are German translations. This is one German version (author unknown) that  comes closer than most: Mà ¶ge dir dein Weg leicht werdenMà ¶ge dir der Wind immer von hinten kommenMà ¶ge dir die Sonne warm ins Gesicht scheinenMà ¶ge dir ein sanfter Regen auf die Felder fallenund bis wir uns wiedersehenmà ¶ge Gott dich in seiner Hand halten. Germans also like to send shorter greetings via  text to each other on their Handys (mobile phones). There are many Web sites in German with sample text messages that can also be used for toasts. Heres a typical example: Die allerbesten Geburtstagswà ¼nsche send/wà ¼nsch ich dir,sie kommen vom Herzen, sie kommen von mir.
